Are we slightly crazy?
Quite possibly, yes. While we had a great time Saturday, it was quite a bit busier than the last few times my cohorts and I have gotten together. I suppose the days of watching babies lay and bat at toys has passed us, but what a crazy morning. Not many complete sentences were exchanged, but I think a good time was had by all!
The morning started off with a bang. Just as Kim arrived with Caden and Evan, Mia called 911! I had grabbed the phone from her and hit "off" when I noticed her pounding on the buttons. Moments later, the phone rang. Since I didn't recognize the number, I almost didn't answer. Thankfully, I answered the phone! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. At least they didn't send a cruiser; imagine the implications for teenage gatherings if the police show up when you're still a toddler!
The rest of our time was occupied with gangs of toddlers roaming the house. Lots of Mac and Cheese was consumed and the moms even forgot to make their mimosas! It's really amazing how well they all get along. We can't wait until our next get-together, at someone else's house, of course.

The Great Mustard Race

It's always the exact same jar of mustard, no variation. Maybe it's because it looks like a bottle nipple, maybe it's the bright yellow bottle. Whatever the reason, our toddlers have taken a hankering for hot dog mustard. The instant the fridge door is open, those little meaty mitts are grabbing at that bottle. Often, with it's placement on the outer edge of the fridge door, it's gone before you even realize that a pint-sized person was even near you!
And then the chase ensues. The offender sprints (as fast as toddler legs will allow) down the hallway into a room. They know their quest is futile; the bottle has never successfully stayed out of the fridge long. They pretend to drink from the bottle, over and over, the multiple times a day our race happens. I have to say, I'm so tempted to leave the cap open one of these days!

Not Me! Monday

After reading Theresa's blog, I've decided to try my hand at my own Not me! Monday...
As I look around my house this Monday, I can proudly say that I would never leave baskets of clean and folded laundry next to the dryer for days on end. Not me. You always find me hoping up put away all my freshly laundered garments! And, along the same lines, you'd never find a pile of homeless socks and random items in my laundry room. No sir-y. Everything in my home has it's place and is always where it belongs.
As a sweet and loving mother, I would never leave grading off until the last moment, ignoring it all weekend long, finish it before scooting out the classroom door at 4:50, and be late for dinner as a result. Not me. No way. I always have all my work done by 3:35! I also refill my tank long before the light goes on. You won't find me needing to leave early tomorrow morning because my tank's on "e".
My children always eat exactly what I serve. I would never make them something separate because I know they won't eat what I'm serving. No way, Jose! And, I certainly wouldn't make something like hot dogs to replace a healthy protein like fish. No, my kids love every thing I make. Gobble it up like candy. Every time.

Best Friends

It seems like a recent realization that Ben and Mia have become the best of friends. The belly laughs and giggles from our double trouble have grown exponentially lately. It's heart melting to hear it echo down the hallways of our home. We find ourselves tempted to sneak down and spy on the newest game they've invented but it somehow destroys their fun. So, we resist, relying only on our imaginations to guess what B's newest trick is.
One of our favorite games to witness is one Mia initiates at our bay window. While any time of day will suffice, Mia prefers the dark of evening to peer out into the darkness (really staring at her own reflection). B takes a matching spot at the opposite bay. Our little controlling Mia is all at Ben's mercy in this game, waiting for him to chirp his little line, and move into her spot. Her giggles are absolutely uncontrollable, which is mystifying while you watch. It's nothing. There's very little happening but watching our little girl's eyes light up while she plays with her brother is magical. And of course, they are the best of friends, except when they're grabbing toys and hitting and stealing binkies and slapping and...

Crib Diaries

A new game has begun in the Te Pastte household. It started as an alternative to morning nap, a way to fight the grumpies that were accompanying the lack of sleeping time. It has become, however, the best time any toddler has ever had. I have no idea what the allure is to Mia's crib. Since the kids are only allowed binkies in the crib, I realize that holds some of the appeal but it can't be the only reason. Ben would spend most of his day there if we'd allow it.
They fail around in some sort of wrestling game, playing and squealing and tickling each other. Mia will always ask to get out first, and B will stay and sing for a while before he decides he is also finished. They happily hand over the binkies and move on to something new.
